BLSSD at DFW A/W 24/25

Co-founded by the Dubai Design District (d3) and the Arab Fashion Council, the Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) concluded on a high note. A stellar line-up of regional and global designers participated at the show, and here we have picked five standout moments from the Autumn/Winter 24/25 showcase.

Runway to retail: Fashion brand American Rag Cie (ARC) and d3-based fashion university FAD Dubai joined forces to unveil ‘One-Off’, a multi-brand concept spotlighting fashion graduates and emerging designers. The collaboration reflected ARC’s commitment to championing local brands and new talent, fostering innovation and providing a platform for emerging designers to transition seamlessly from the runway to retail.

Spotlight on sustainability: Beirut-born fashion label Emergency Room partnered with smartphone brand Nothing to demonstrate the intersection of sustainability, technology and fashion for their latest collection titled ‘What Am I To Do With All That Is Left?’ Reflecting on challenging times, the show emphasised resilience and creativity in the face of adversity by transforming surplus materials from past collections into new clothes.

Couture collabs: Haute couture designer Zeena Zaki teamed up with Chalhoub Group’s homegrown luxury shopping destination Tryano in Abu Dhabi to showcase her Ramadan 2024 collection. Majid Al Futtaim Lifestyle’s homegrown platform THAT Concept Store collaborated with DFW and hosted ‘THAT NIGHT OUT’ serving as a premier closing event. In an exclusive collaboration with Bloomingdale’s, Bil Arabi by Nadine Kanso unveiled their exclusive Valentine collection.

Smashing stereotypes with streetwear: Through its ‘Disclaimer’ collection Beirut-born street-luxe label BLSSD showcased its signature and daring approach to design, balancing minimalist influences with innovative folds, zipper waistbands and handcrafted vegan leather sequins, reflecting the brand’s disclaimer against predefined identities and stereotypes in fashion while celebrating self-expression. While designer Zeynab El-Helw’s Reborn Society unveiled its latest collection ‘Phoenix Rise’, an exploration of modern streetwear with urban styling. Showcasing the diversity of streetwear culture the runway displayed wardrobe staples for men and women that seamlessly transitioned from day to night, making a statement with dark denim washes and oversized silhouettes.

Threads Talk: Organised by META and the Arab Fashion Council, industry professionals from around the world converged at Threads Talk 2.0 where experts discussed opportunities, challenges and insights currently defining the global fashion industry.
