Marina Mall Abu Dhabi lends support to female entrepreneurs

Marina Mall Abu Dhabi will launch a charity initiative to show its support for the UAE’s female entrepreneurs and business owners as part of International Women’s Day on March 8.

As part of the initiative Marina Mall Abu Dhabi will donate AED10 to the Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts charity for every AED100 spent on International Women’s Day (March 8) at any of the mall’s 10 businesses owned by women. The stores include Sauce, Harmony, Etam, Scarabee, Green Bird, Volume, Cocoon, Ibtissama Beauty, Masion by Samira Mattouk Café, Cute Avenue and D1 Milano.

Up to AED100,000 will be donated by Marina Mall Abu Dhabi to Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts, which empowers underprivileged women by providing them with training, materials, marketing and community support to make and sell traditional crafts and products.

While giving women financial independence and a means to make a living to support themselves and their families, the charity also helps to keep traditional Emirati crafts such as palm tree weaving, hand braiding metal threads and henna painting alive by passing these skills on to a new generation.

Marina Mall Abu Dhabi’s donation to Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts will be confirmed once customers hand over a receipt from one of the 10 stores to a customer service point. Shoppers will then receive a special card to certify that they have contributed to the charity, which in the last 10 years has helped hundreds of women launch their own businesses selling traditional crafts.

“Empowerment, gaining financial independence and learning new skills are at the heart of what we do, and we’re glad to be partnering with Marina Mall Abu Dhabi who will help us empower underprivileged women through sustainable crafts,” says Mariam Al Kindi, manager, Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts.

“International Women’s Day is an important date on Marina Mall Abu Dhabi’s calendar and we are delighted to be able to show our support for businesswomen and female entrepreneurs across the UAE, including 10 of our popular stores that are owned by women,” adds Chelsea Copenhaver, marketing manager, Marina Mall Abu Dhabi. “By putting the mall’s female-owned stores in the spotlight, fully backing the Al Ghadeer UAE charity, and providing a platform for talented female entrepreneurs from across the emirate of Abu Dhabi to sell their products, Marina Mall Abu Dhabi is demonstrating its commitment to supporting International Women’s Day 2018.”
