Dubai Duty Free celebrates World Environment Day

Airport retailer Dubai Duty Free (DDF) joined the world in celebrating the World Environment Day on June 5 in response to the call of the United Nations Environment Programme and as part of its ongoing commitment towards environmental protection.

As part of the celebration, DDF launched two significant environmental initiatives with long-term impact to inspire individual action and continuously value the preservation of the environment.

DDF launched its very own Kids Enviro Club (KEC), which is open to children of DDF employees’ aged between 6-and-12 years old. The mission of KEC is for the next generation to increase their eco-consciousness and develop a strong sense of leadership and social responsibility when it comes to taking care of the environment. Various programmes and activities will be organised for the children as part of the Club and they will receive ongoing updates and eco-information in order to build up awareness.

Meanwhile, a call for entries for the Dubai Duty Free Environmental Tagline Competition was also conducted, which aims to find the best catchphrase that encapsulates DDF’s approach to environmental protection. The winning entry will be announced at the ‘Clean Up the World’ campaign in September and will be used as the official DDF environmental tagline to further promote and raise public awareness of the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.

“At DDF we are doing our bit to mark and celebrate World Environment Day. The launch of the Kids Enviro Club will offer the children of our employees the opportunity to have lots of fun and to learn about the environment. I think by starting these initiatives at an office level, their impact will eventually make their way in to the home, which will benefit the wider community,” says DDF executive vice chairman and CEO, Colm McLoughlin.
