French retailer Carrefour SA reported faster sales growth than expected in the fourth quarter of 2014, boosted by its business in France, where the company is regaining ground, and in Brazil.
Carrefour’s 4Q sales totalled $26.2 billion, up from $25.6 billion in the year-earlier period. And its sales in 2014 totalled $97.1 billion.
Overall sales were hit by weakening currencies such as the Brazilian real and the Argentine peso. However, excluding currency swings, fuel sales and calendar effects, Carrefour’s fourth quarter sales rose 4.1%.
