Abu Dhabi invites global retailers to foray into its new terminal

Abu Dhabi Duty Free is inviting bids from global retailers who want to be part of the new terminal being built at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Retailers, food and beverage (F&B) operators and leading brands from all around the world are being invited to submit bids for commercial opportunities for the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB), which is due to open in July 2017.

The $2.9 billion project to expand facilities at Abu Dhabi International is expected to increase capacity to 30 million passengers annually, doubling current capacity. A total of 301389 sqft of space will be available, comprising of 193750 sqft of retail and 107639 sqft for F&B outlets. Abu Dhabi Duty Free will allow successful bidders from the retail and F&B sectors to work with international consultants to optimise allocated space and cater it to their own bespoke designs.

Mohammed Al Bulooki, chief commercial officer of Abu Dhabi Airports says, “Abu Dhabi Airports is calling on ambitious, innovative retailers, F&B operators as well as leading brands from all over the world to participate in this commercial process. Few opportunities like this exist to take advantage of in such a unique and extensive commercial space, whose size and footfall make it so compelling. Abu Dhabi Airports looks forward to working with partners to make Abu Dhabi’s MTB a jewel in the crown in the UAE’s transport infrastructure.”
