Egypt’s Ministry of Finance has announced that a 14% VAT will be levied on all online delivery services supplied by restaurants and shops, starting June 3rd.

Restaurants and businesses with over EGP 500,000 in annual revenues will have to charge and remit VAT on all delivery services. Retail stores and restaurant chains, including those in airports, have also been instructed to charge the 14% tax on delivery tariffs.

However, individual shops and traders will be able to sell goods online without collecting VAT from the consumer. The country’s finance minister Mohamed Maait announced that under the executive amendment to the VAT Act, the ministry will increase tax collection by 18% in the upcoming fiscal year.  Tax authorities have added that offices and commercial spaces are subject to the amended VAT Act.
