Abu Dhabi’s Yas Mall welcomed 125 school children in a tree planting event held in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Education Council and Aldar Academies, dedicated to educating youth about the importance of recycling and caring for the environment.

Held in Town Square at Yas Mall, primary pupils from The Pearl; Al Ain International; Al Mushrif; Al Muna; and Al Dhabiyania schools planted seedlings into biodegradable pots. The students were also given an interactive environmental presentation focused on recycling by human resources and environmental solutions provider Dulsco.

Yas Mall is the largest retail development to achieve a 2-pearl Estidama sustainability rating in the UAE and the most sustainable mall in the region, due to its world-class eco-friendly standards in design, construction and operation. It also has the largest landscaped area in the UAE, with 1.2 million sqft of external landscaping and 415,813 individual plants. Further it also boasts more than 57 natural trees over four metres long within the mall, enabling visitors to experience the unique feel of being outdoors while indoors.

“Aldar Properties has an unrivalled commitment to creating a sustainable future for the capital; we incorporate sustainable practices not only into our construction but in our landscaping, cleaning and waste management at Yas Mall. As one of the largest property developers in the Middle East and North Africa region, we see it as our responsibility to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability, and to play a part in teaching students about preserving the environment,” says Talal Al Dhiyebi, chief development officer at Aldar Properties.
