US clothing retailer Aeropostale has announced plans to launch the Aeropostale brand in Mexico through a licensing agreement with local department store operator Distribuidora Liverpool.

Aeropostale’s expansion plans in Mexico include the opening of branded shop-in-shops in Liverpool department stores across Mexico beginning in Summer 2013, in addition to rolling out standalone stores.  The company’s first standalone store is scheduled to open in Sante Fe Mall in Mexico City in Summer 2013.

“We consider Mexico a pivotal market as we look at our overall global expansion strategy.  The Liverpool team possesses incredible insight and experience into the consumer as the operator of Mexico’s largest and preeminent department store. We look forward to working with such an established partner to expand the Aeropostale brand into this key market,” says Thomas P Johnson, CEO, Aeropostale.

“We are excited to capitalize on the popularity and recognition of the Aeropostale brand in Mexico. The Aeropostale brand is a proven cornerstone of the teen apparel market, and we look forward to bringing Aeropostale to Mexico through our vast portfolio of department stores, as well as standalone locations, over the next few years,” adds Graciano Guichard Gonzalez, commercial director of Liverpool.
