Union Coop Expands Hatta Souq Branch, Strengthening Community Retail Presence

January 20, 2026 | By RetailME Bureau

Union Coop has completed a significant expansion of its Hatta Souq branch, reinforcing its commitment to community-centric retail and enhanced customer experiences in one of Dubai’s key residential and tourist destinations.

The upgraded branch has undergone a dramatic scale-up, with retail space expanding from 2,163.55 sq. ft. to 11,625 sq. ft. This more than five-fold increase, representing a 437% expansion, allows for improved zoning, clearer product presentation, and smoother customer flow, transforming the overall shopping environment.

Alongside the physical expansion, the store has seen a major uplift in product assortment. Active SKUs have increased from 4,013 to 12,091, a 201% rise, with over 8,000 new SKUs added across multiple categories. This enhancement significantly broadens choice while improving accessibility and convenience for shoppers.

The development was executed in phases from the end of Q4 2025 through the current period, focusing on layout optimisation, expanded retail capacity, and deeper category representation. Union Coop has also confirmed that further SKU additions and new categories are planned, ensuring the branch continues to evolve in line with customer demand and consumption trends.

Union Coop noted that the Hatta expansion reflects its wider strategy of tailoring store development to the specific needs of local communities, while delivering consistent value through quality, variety, and ease of shopping.

Union Coop’s Growth Story in the Region

Union Coop’s Hatta expansion is part of a broader growth journey across Dubai and the wider emirate. Over the years, the cooperative has steadily expanded its network of neighbourhood stores, hypermarkets, and specialised retail formats, strengthening its presence in residential areas as well as high-footfall tourist locations.

Recent years have seen Union Coop focus on modernising existing branches, introducing larger-format stores, and enhancing private label ranges, fresh food categories, and essential goods. The cooperative has also continued to invest in strategic locations to improve accessibility for communities, while aligning store formats with evolving consumer lifestyles.

With an ongoing pipeline of store upgrades, new openings, and assortment-led growth, Union Coop continues to reinforce its position as one of Dubai’s most trusted retail cooperatives—balancing scale with community relevance and long-term value creation.

Union Coop operates around 27 branches across the United Arab Emirates (primarily in Dubai). This includes hypermarkets and retail outlets serving a wide range of communities throughout the emirate.
