Shopping malls in the UAE are reopening from today (April 24) with reduced operating hours and in line with precautionary guidelines issued by government agencies, which coincides with the first day of Ramadan.

The Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management has announced partial reduction in the restrictions on movement in Dubai starting from April 24. However, movement restrictions will continue for national sterilisation programme between 10pm and 6am every day.

In Dubai, shopping malls will be operational from 12-10 pm. Shopping centres and high street locations will have to maintain 30% occupancy in common and gross leasable areas, while only 25% of mall parking will remain open for use. In terms of health and safety measures, the shopping centres will have to ensure strict sanitisation and sterilisation of the space, while installing hand sanitisation stations. Mall employees and visitors will have to undergo temperature check at the entrance, in addition to wearing gloves and face masks. Digital payment methods are being encouraged, although cash is acceptable.

Among other retail sectors, F&B outlets will have to reduce seating arrangements to 30% and maintain the minimum distance between tables. Similarly, retail stores will have to indicate the maximum number of people allowed inside, maintaining a distance of four feet. Salons have also opened, only offering hair and nail service, accepting only prior appointments. Supermarkets, grocery stores, pharmacies and doorstep delivery will continue as usual.

During the first phase of reopening, entertainment centres, cinemas as well as prayer rooms and public seating will remain closed.

Social distancing of two feet will have to be maintained at all times, in addition to wearing face masks and gloves as precautionary measures.
