During the holy month of Ramadan, The Dubai Mall will be hosting Afghan master weavers at The Souk Atrium in support to an initiative by Her Highness Fatema Bint Mohammed Bin Zayed. The weavers will spin wool and design magnificent carpets, display creative handmade carpets collection and share with the mall visitors the basic techniques of carpet weaving.
This initiative is held in partnership with Tanweer Investments based in Afghanistan, which aims to empower women to drive sustainable development. It provides women with job opportunities in carpet production and also offers them and families critical social services including healthcare and education.
Additionally, for the fifth consecutive year, The Dubai Mall and Dubai Cares are collaborating to highlight the value of charity. The theme for this year’s Dubai Cares campaign is ‘I can teach you something – Can you teach me how to read?’ With an aim to make a difference to underprivileged communities globally through efforts to improve access for children to primary education, the initiative will take place at the waterfall atrium.
Three captivating art pieces by eminent Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej, made out of stainless and engraved in calligraphy, reflecting the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, will also be on display. As part of offering an Arabic ambience, all public seating areas will be transformed to reflect the traditional style and the mall will welcome visitors with succulent dates and Arabic coffee.
