Majid Al Futtaim helps children go to school

Majid Al Futtaim is inviting visitors to five of its shopping malls in the UAE – Mall of the Emirates and City Centres Deira, Mirdif and Me’aisem in Dubai and City Centre Sharjah in the Northern Emirates – to share their great moments to help provide vulnerable children across the region with access to quality education.

Until 12 September, mall visitors are invited to post photos and videos of their special time spent with family and friends in the participating malls on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #mygreatmoments. For every #mygreatmoments post shared, AED1 will be donated to UNICEF.  Seven hundred posts using the hashtag #mygreatmoments can help one child go to school. All funds raised will go towards improving access to education and development, and in providing child-friendly, safe learning environments.

“As part of our annual Back to School campaign we are excited to make a difference in communities that need it the most. We recognise the importance of education and enabling children to unlock their full potential, and encourage mall visitors to share their great moments to help us get as many children as possible their right to education,” says Fuad Mansoor Sharaf, managing director for Majid Al Futtaim Properties, Shopping Malls (UAE, Bahrain & Oman).

In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, around 14 million children 5-14 years old are not in school while 1 in every 4 children live in poverty. They are deprived of the most basic necessities including education, decent housing, nutritious food, quality health care, safe water, sanitation and access to information. UNICEF works to ensure that all children have access to basic services such as health and nutrition, protection and education, everywhere, all the time.

“All children have the right to education, whoever and wherever they are. The Back to School campaign is part of a wider partnership with Majid Al Futtaim activated across the group and in various markets. We are hopeful that together, we can continue to achieve ambitious results, for every child. This visionary partnership will do just that,” adds Eltayeb Adam, UNICEF Gulf Area Office representative.
