Peru promotes superfoods in the UAE

Peru is all set to roll out plans to promote its range of superfoods in the UAE. One of the fastest growing economy in Latin America over the last decade, Peru is bullish on increasing exports of its ethnic agricultural and other products to the Middle East region in line with the rising demand.

The range of Peruvian superfoods are classified into fruit and vegetables (goldenberries, blueberries, artichokes, camu camu, cherimoya, asparagus, pomegranate, passion fruit, soursop, lucuma, tangerine, avocado and grapes); grains (cocoa, chestnut, sweet potato, cañihua, chia, amaranth, maca, purple corn, quinoa, sacha inchi, yacon and cassava); and fish and seafood (anchovy, eel, tuna, bonito, mackerel, squid, scallops, horse mackerel, prawns, mahi-mahi, hake, paiche, cuttlefish and trout).

Earlier this year, the Government of Peru streamlined its plans for Expo 2020 Dubai and initiated the pavilion work in the presence of Edgar Vásquez, the minister of foreign trade and tourism of Peru. Coinciding with this, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) also organised Expo Peru Dubai 2019 to promote Peruvian trade and tourism in the region.

Commenting on this, Luis Torres, executive president of PROMPERÚ, said “We are delighted to increase presence of Peruvian superfoods in the UAE. Dubai is an ideal market to showcase the strengths of genuine products from Peru. A number of companies from Peru are looking to export agribusiness products and concepts aimed at attracting interest from all over the region and beyond.”

“For Peru, the UAE is one of the most important markets in the Middle East. The UAE has high strategic value because it is important not only for its domestic demand but also because it is a major platform and a logistics and commercial hub for the entire MENASA region,” added Eduardo Ferreyros, commissioner general of Peru for Expo 2020 Dubai.

“Not many people in the UAE are probably aware of Peruvian products that come from different culinary traditions. We are planning to reap the benefits of our potential generating a lot of interest from the public and distributors by providing information to them about our product range that the market is interested to absorb. We aim to establish a long-term commercial relationship in the UAE, as well as across the region,” he stated.

Peru also unveiled “Super Foods Peru” brand aimed at participating at the most representative food events and fairs in the world in order to highlight the qualities of functionality and well-being.
