Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure in the UAE capital, has opened a new retail scale verification bureau in Al Ain as part of its continued efforts to meet the dynamic needs of customers from the retail sector for high quality verification services in a timely and efficient manner.

The bureau, which is the second of its kind in the emirate, offers the verification of retail scales with the capacity of up to 150 kg, which are widely used in the retailing of products such as meat, fish, vegetable, fruit and confectionery, among others.

Business owners can bring their scales to the bureau to ensure their compliance with relevant technical requirements. The verification process takes a maximum of 15 minutes.

“The opening of Al Ain verification bureau articulates our commitment to be closer to our customers, ensuring the rights of both consumers and traders and achieving the highest customer happiness,” says Sultan Saeed Al Mehairi, director of information service and engagement at QCC. “In addition to supporting QCC’s strategy to enhance the overall quality of products and services, the bureau will promote the highest standards and specifications in retail transactions. This will boost consumer confidence in the products traded in the local market, while accelerating economic growth and improving the overall competitiveness of Abu Dhabi economy.”

“The bureau is fitted out with the latest testing equipment to meet the technical requirements of modern retail scales and its services are offered under the supervision of highly skilled UAE national workforce,” he adds.

The first verification bureau in Abu Dhabi was opened at the end of 2014. From its inception until the end of May, it has verified the accuracy of 6,076 scales used for various purposes.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products, while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. QCC empowers regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. The Council also sets guidelines and benchmarks to verify that products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
