Starbucks marks a new sustainability milestone in MENA

December 21, 2020 | By RetailME Bureau

Starbucks announced the launch of the straw-less lid across all its markets in the MENA region. Through this campaign, Starbucks is demonstrating its support for the phasing out plastic straws worldwide.

The newly launched straw-less lid is recyclable and is the new standard for iced beverages in Starbucks stores across MENA. Starbucks has developed and trialed several prototypes of the lightweight recyclable straw-less lids in select markets around the world before arriving at this milestone and rolling it out in the region. It will continue to shift away from single-use packaging and plastics as part of its resource positive commitment announced earlier this year.

“the launch of the straw-less lid across MENA is an important step for us towards being a more environmentally conscious company. The introduction and rollout of the straw-les lid in MENA reduces the need for “, Regional Communications and CSR Manager for Starbucks Coffee MENAa straw altogether. By doing so, our objective is to reduce the consumption of straws usage from iced drinks

“We believe in giving back to communities we operate in, and through the straw-less lid campaign in MENA we aim to work with our customers and partners to showcase the value of collaboration and take care of our planet. Our long-standing history of innovation within Starbucks, partnership across the industry, and changing consumer behaviour remain fundamental to our purpose and our organization. We look forward to the launch of this new environmental initiative and to making it a success.”

This initiative reflects Starbuck’s global multi-decade aspiration to become a resource positive company by 2030, giving more than it takes – one that stores more carbon than it emits, provides more clean fresh water than it uses, and reduces waste. Starbucks also aims to positively impact customers and its environmental footprint through a series of actions, including shifting away from single-use plastic, investing in innovative and regenerative agricultural practices, and developing eco-friendly stores.
