Primark to open first store in Hungary

International fashion retailer Primark will open its first store in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. The store will be located in Budapest’s Arena Mall, expected to open in Primark’s next financial year (September 16, 2023 – September 15, 2024).

The retailer’s expansion into Hungary demonstrates Primark’s continued investment and commitment to the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region following successful store openings across Slovenia, Poland, Czech Republic and more recently Romania. With plans to open its first store in Slovakia later this year, Hungary will become Primark’s sixth market in CEE and its 17th market globally. Primark currently has 416 stores across 15 countries in Europe and the US.

The new Budapest store will offer customers Primark’s unique formula of the latest trends and everyday essentials across womenswear, menswear, kidswear, beauty, lifestyle and homeware. The store will also feature a wide selection of licensing ranges such as NBA and Disney as well as the brand’s own sustainable fashion label Primark Cares.

“We are really excited to announce our entry into our 17th market, as part of our ambitious expansion plans. Arena Mall is the perfect location to introduce customers in Hungary to Primark’s amazing fashion and everyday essentials at great value prices, as well as our unique store concept. We’ve had a great reaction to our other stores in the CEE region and we know our customers in Hungary will love what we have to offer,” said Maciej Podwojski, Head of Sales, CEE at Primark.

Building on the successful opening of eight stores in the CEE region since 2019 Primark plans to open its first store in Slovakia later this year, as well as expanding its network with new locations in Bucharest, Romania and in Lodz and Wroclaw, in Poland. By 2026 the company expects to grow its store portfolio to 530 stores globally.
