Ocado plans to open fourth customer fulfilment centre

January 30, 2015 | By RetailME Bureau

British online grocery retailer Ocado will open a fourth distribution centre in the UK as it continues to benefit from strong demand in internet shopping. The company had entered into an agreement to develop a new customer fulfilment centre (CFC) in Erith, South East London.

While planning consent hasn’t been secured yet, Ocado expects that work will commence on the plant in 2016 for it to be operational in 2017. The company said it would announce more details about the Erith site when it releases its financial results on February 4.

The new centre will be the company’s fourth, after its plant at Andover in Hampshire opens at the end of this year. Ocado also has CFCs in Hatfield, Hertfordshire and in Dordon, Warwickshire, which is shared between Ocado’s own grocery service and Morrisons.
