Danone acquires YoCrunch

Paris-based food-products company Danone announced that it has bought US-based yogurt and toppings producer YoCrunch with an aim to expand in the US. YoCrunch, which was founded in 1985, has net sales of $110 million and has recorded double-digit growth in recent years. And according to Euromonitor International, Danone accounts for about 30% of the market with brands such as Dannon, Danimals and Activia.

Danone is adding to its US dairy business to make up for western European consumers switching to cheaper private labels in the debt-burdened region.

On the other hand, yogurt sales in the US are forecast to touch $8.4 billion by 2018 from $6.5 billion last year, according to data from Mintel.
