UAE-based Al Shamil Foodstuff Trading, in partnership with the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and Right Angle Media, has designed and will operate Smart Shelter, a retail concept that provides on-the-go convenience products and services in air-conditioned, converted bus shelters across Dubai.
Open all seven days, Smart Shelter will provide local residents, office workers, pedestrians, tourists and commuters convenient services including free Wi-Fi, mobile charging, Nol and telecom recharge, bill payments and mini-market shopping.
“Smart Shelter is a pioneering and game-changing retail concept that offers customers daily-use products and frequently-used services in a very visible and convenient kerbside location. It’s the ideal solution when you need to grab a few things on your way to work, way home or from just around the corner,” says Rohit Dalmia, managing director, Al Shamil Foodstuff Trading.
The opening of 100-plus Smart Shelters across the city is underway with shelters already operational in places such as Jumeirah, Satwa, Karama, Bur Dubai, Deira and several other prominent kerbside locations across Dubai.
“With access to guaranteed footfall and air-conditioned street space in some of Dubai’s most visible and dense geographical locations, Smart Shelter is the ideal marketing and sales platform for brands to retail their products and services, and for local residents, office workers, pedestrians, tourists and commuters to access those products and services,” Dalmia adds.
“More than one million Dubai residents and tourists use public transport in the emirate every year. The Smart Shelter project is part of RTA’s efforts to enhance the customer experience on these journeys. We are delighted to partner with Right Angle Media and Al Shamil Foodstuff Trading in order to bring a range of services to the public that will make their commutes more comfortable and give local residents easy access to essential daily services,” comments Mohammad Al Ali, director of buses at RTA.
