With an aim to offer an easy and quick shopping experience, UK-based supermarket chain Morrisons plans to roll out contactless payment in all its stores by this summer, with the technology being supplied by Barclaycard.

“From summer 2015 all of our payment points across the country will have been upgraded to accept contactless payments,” reveals Martyn Fletcher, Morrisons group retail director. “This is another improvement in technology at Morrisons that will enhance our customers’ shopping trip.”

Morrisons has set aside $6.14 million to upgrade 15,500 payment points across its supermarket and convenience store estates over the next three months. By using the new contactless payment units, Morrisons will save each customer 10 seconds every time they pay for their shopping, reducing customer queues.
